The Delhi High Court expressed displeasure with the Central Government for failing to respond to three petitions filed in 2017 and 2019 seeking implementation of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
A division bench of Justices Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Anish Dayal observed that despite the petitioners’ claims regarding non-compliance with statutory rules, such as failure to amend official documents and issue certificates of identity, the Government has not filed any reply.
The Court granted the Union a final four-week deadline to respond, with advance copies to petitioners, who will have two weeks for counter-replies. The matter is listed for hearing on November 20.
