The Delhi High Court recalled its previous order quashing the Central government’s rejection of Siddharth Varadarajan’s OCI card application.
Earlier, the Court had ruled in favor of the founding editor of The Wire, noting the government’s rejection lacked specific reasoning. However, the Court reversed its stance after the government revealed that Varadarajan suppressed a 2020 Allahabad High Court bail order.
That order specifically restrains him from leaving the country without prior judicial permission.
Taking a serious view of the non-disclosure, the Court stated the petitioner does not deserve relief due to suppression of facts and directed him to file an explanatory affidavit.
