The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea seeking a blanket ban on unregulated gambling and betting apps, stating that without a specific law prohibiting such platforms, the Court cannot issue a sweeping order.
The petitioner's counsel noted that the recently introduced law on online gaming, namely the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, does not properly deal with the issue of unregulated betting and gambling.
The bench emphasised that policy-making falls under the legislature’s domain and urged the central government to consider introducing appropriate regulations.
