The Delhi High Court dismissed the Unnao rape survivor’s appeal seeking harsher punishment, including the death penalty, for former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the custodial death case of her father.
The Court noted that the appeal was filed after a significant and unexplained delay of about 1,945 days and held that no sufficient cause was shown to condone such delay.
It further observed that entertaining a belated plea for enhancement of sentence could prejudice the rights of the accused.
Accordingly, the Court refused to interfere with the trial court’s earlier sentencing decision.
