Delhi High Court Restrains Coaching Centre from Defaming CLAT Topper and Rival

Delhi High Court intervened in a 'turf war' between rival coaching institutes, LegalEdge and Law Prep Tutorial, over credit for the success of CLAT 2026 topper Geetali Gupta. 

The Court restrained Law Prep Tutorial from publishing defamatory content against LegalEdge and ordered the removal of videos disparaging Gupta.

The Court noted that the student was being used as a "pawn" in a commercial rivalry and found Law Prep’s unauthorized use of LegalEdge’s trademarks to be prima facie disparaging.

However, the Court refused to recognize "personality rights" for the topper, stating such protections shouldn't be granted solely based on academic milestones.
