The Delhi High Court has held that calling a woman r***i attacks her character by questioning her sexual dignity and amounts to outraging her modesty.
The Bench said that the word is laden with sexual innuendo and attributes unchastity upon her. It was further noted that such a word is bound to humiliate a woman as it creates the perception of a loose moral character.
The complainant was the Vice Principal of a school who alleged that one of the Principal's men used abusive language against her, and two others made indecent gestures and tried to overpower her. She also alleged that no action was taken against the Principal.
