The Delhi High Court ruled that Saregama India Limited (SIL) holds the copyright to the song 'En Iniya Pon Nilave' from the 1980 Tamil film Moodu Pani and its composer Ilayaraja cannot assign it to third parties.
The Court restrained Vels Films International from releasing a recreated version of the song for the film Aghathiyaa, rejecting Ilayaraja’s claim of ownership under the Copyright Act.
The Court allowed Vels to use the song if it deposited ₹30 lakh as a license fee, but the producer chose to release the film without the song due to financial constraints.
