Delhi High Court Directs AAI to Consider Blind Candidate for Security Screening Post

The Delhi High Court held that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was required to consider a blind candidate for a security screening position, rejecting the contention that visual impairment per se disqualified an individual from such employment.

The Court distinguished between physical sight and cognitive perception, observing that, with the aid of modern assistive technology and reasonable accommodations, the candidate was capable of performing the essential functions of the role.

The Court said that, relying on a medical assessment, it affirmed the mandate of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, emphasising the statutory requirement to provide inclusive employment opportunities.
