The Delhi High Court has held that "self-declaration information" made on matrimonial websites, without verification or supporting evidence, cannot be treated as admissible proof in court.
Justice Kanta Sharma dismissed a wife's plea for enhanced maintenance, which was based on her husband’s alleged ₹10 lakh monthly income listed on Jeevansathi.com.
The Court emphasised that speculative claims or assumptions about increasing income cannot substitute for documentary proof.
The court also took note of the wife’s remarriage that was undisclosed during cross-examination, while affirming the Family Court’s order and directing that maintenance must be determined on verified financial records, not assumptions.
