The Delhi High Court has held that schools are not business enterprises, and must not intimidate or harass students for non-payment of fees.
The Court noted that educational institutions must put the best interests of students first, and not merely focus on profit.
The ruling was made while considering a plea against coercive actions by a school against students who had non paid fees.
The Court required schools to take a compassionate approach and stated, "Denying education or humiliating students over financial issues is unacceptable, and contrary to the right to education".
