The Delhi High Court, with consent from all parties, referred the dispute between Coomi Kapoor, Netflix, and Manikarnika Films to mediation, scheduling sessions on May 9 and May 20.
Kapoor alleges Netflix and Manikarnika Films violated key clauses in a tripartite agreement that required historical accuracy and prohibited the use of her name or book for promotion without prior written consent.
She contends the film Emergency distorts facts and wrongly cites her book The Emergency: A Personal History (2015) as its basis, implying her endorsement.
The film includes a disclaimer naming the book as inspiration, which Kapoor claims is unauthorized and reputationally damaging. Litigation may proceed if mediation fails.
