The Delhi High Court sentenced 12 men to one day’s imprisonment and fined them ₹2,000 each for assaulting advocate commissioners investigating the sale of counterfeit Samsung phones in a Kolkata market.
The Court held that obstructing court-appointed commissioners amounts to interference in the administration of justice.
The case arose from a 2015 suo motu contempt proceeding after commissioners, despite police protection, were attacked by a mob of around 200 people while executing a court order in Samsung’s trademark suit.
The Bench convicted 12 shopkeepers and attendants, stressing that such acts undermine the rule of law.
