Delhi High Court Raps Abhijit Iyer-Mitra for Defamatory Posts Against Women Journalists

The Delhi High Court has strongly criticised Abhijit Iyer-Mitra for calling Newslaundry Executive Editor Manisha Pande and eight other women journalists “prostitutes” and their workplace a “brothel.”

The court made the remarks while hearing a ₹2 crore defamation suit filed by the journalists, citing eight offensive posts made between February and May 2025.

The journalists alleged the posts were malicious and aimed at gaining cheap publicity. They seek a written apology, damages, and restraint on further defamatory content.

The court called the language completely unacceptable, warning of a possible criminal FIR. Iyer-Mitra’s counsel admitted fault and agreed to delete the posts within five hours.
