Delhi High Court Fines Petitioners ₹50,000 for Baseless Judicial Bias Allegations

The Delhi High Court imposed ₹50,000 costs on two petitioners for making unfounded allegations of bias against a trial judge in a transfer plea.

Justice Saurabh Banerjee noted that the plea relied on “mythical assertions” that the judge spoke to the opposing party in a friendly manner, without any evidence or court records to support the claim.

The Court observed that the petitioners continued appearing before the same judge and had not filed any affidavit or prior transfer plea. Dismissing the petition, the Court directed the costs be deposited with the Delhi High Court Bar Association Lawyers' Social Security and Welfare Fund within two weeks.
