Delhi High Court Stays Hiring of Only Retired Prosecutors for 196 Vacant Posts

The Delhi High Court stayed a notice inviting only retired prosecutors to apply for 196 public prosecutor posts on a contractual basis, challenging the bypass of open recruitment via UPSC.

Advocate Vikas Verma argued the advertisement was arbitrary, illegal, and violated constitutional articles by excluding young advocates and marginalised groups, undermining merit and reservation policies.

The court directed the government to consider a representation against the move and issued notices to the relevant authorities.

The petitioner contended that the policy causes unfair backdoor entry and dual financial burden on the state via pension and contractual pay.
