The Delhi High Court has agreed to examine the legal rights of children born from ‘Kareva’ marriages, where a widow marries her late husband’s brother according to custom.
The Court will decide if such children can inherit property and be treated as legitimate under the law.
Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani noted that this issue is important for many families and said the Court will hear arguments before giving its decision.
The case could clarify the legal status of such children under existing personal and property laws, especially in cases where customary practices differ from statutory norms.
