The Delhi High Court declined to interfere with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s (FSSAI) ban on beverages labelled as Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), observing that such products were identified as health hazards and restricted to safeguard public health.
The Court heard a plea by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories seeking permission to sell its remaining stock of fruit-flavoured beverages branded as ORS under the name ‘Rebalanz VITORS.’
Rejecting the request, the Court directed the company to approach FSSAI for appropriate relief, noting that public health concerns must take precedence over commercial interests.
