Lawyers Barred from Turning Off Video During Online Hearings Under New Rules : Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court has framed the new Electronic Evidence and Video Conferencing Rules, 2025, which prohibit lawyers from switching off their video feed during online hearings.

The rules mandate participants to attend proceedings from a quiet and secure location, maintain a stable internet connection, and uphold courtroom decorum by avoiding multitasking or using offensive language.

The rules emphasise that continuous visual presence is vital for effective communication, assessing demeanour, and preserving judicial dignity. The Court reinforced accountability in virtual proceedings.

The matter is scheduled for further hearing on January 19, 2026.
