Umar Khalid, Others Conclude Bail Arguments in Delhi Riots Case; Supreme Court to Hear Police Next

The Supreme Court heard final bail submissions from six accused, including Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, in the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case. The accused, charged under the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly orchestrating unrest during the CAA protests, have been in custody since 2020.

Counsel for the accused argued that none of them incited or participated in violence and that several were not even present at the riot sites.

The Bench noted that the Delhi Police will begin its submissions on November 11, continuing the proceedings to determine whether the bail applications merit consideration.
