Denying Education on The Basis of Health Concerns, Arising Due to Menstruation is Unacceptable: Rajasthan HC

Denying Education on The Basis of Health Concerns, Arising Due to Menstruation is Unacceptable: Rajasthan HC

The Rajasthan High Court ruled that every girl deserves equal educational opportunities regardless of her health challenges.

The petitioner was denied admission to B.Sc (nursing) because her medical examination found her unfit due to her low haemoglobin. In further examination by a review medical board, the petitioner was found ‘fit for anaemia’, indicating that low haemoglobin was due to menorrhagia (a common menstrual issue affecting 10-15% of Indian women).

The court held that the petitioner’s ailment was temporary in nature and should not hinder her access to education.

The menstrual cycle should not be treated as a barrier to the education of any girl child like the petitioner.
