In a serious allegation of medical negligence, doctors at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) are accused of operating on a patient’s right leg instead of the left leg, where a rod had been implanted following an injury over two years ago.
Upon realising the error, the surgical team is said to have switched to the left leg to remove the rod, leaving both legs bandaged. The patient reportedly remains bedridden and unable to mobilise.
HIMS has formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident, with a report to be submitted for further action.
Meanwhile, officials have faced public and political scrutiny over accountability in government hospitals.
