“Don’t Treat Your Wife Like an Animal”: Supreme Court While Rejecting Bail Plea

The Supreme Court refused to grant anticipatory bail to a man accused in a domestic violence case and made strong oral observations regarding the treatment of women within marriage.

During the hearing, the Court remarked that a husband cannot treat his wife “like an animal” and emphasised that she is entitled to dignity and respect.

The bench was hearing a plea challenging the Patna High Court’s refusal to grant anticipatory bail.

Considering the allegations in the case and the circumstances placed before it, the Supreme Court declined to interfere with the High Court’s order and refused to grant relief to the accused husband.
