The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, through DPIIT, has recognized the Screenwriters Rights Association of India (SRAI) as a registered copyright society under Section 33(3) of the Copyright Act, 1957.
This recognition empowers SRAI to manage copyrights for Dramatic and Literary Works across India, significantly impacting the film industry. Producers are now required to comply with royalty payments through SRAI and ensure proper attribution to screenwriters in all content, including digital and social media.
SRAI’s role also strengthens the enforcement of moral rights, enhances transparency in copyright transactions and provides a structured dispute resolution mechanism for industry stakeholders.
