Gujarat HC: Lawyers Must Follow Dress Code Even During Virtual Hearings, Non-Compliance Will Attract Action

The Gujarat High Court strongly disapproved of a lawyer appearing for a virtual hearing without the prescribed gown, emphasising that the professional dress code is mandatory even in online proceedings.

The bench of Justice M.K. Thakker held that virtual presence is equivalent to physical presence and as per the applicable rules and regulations.

The court warned that it may revoke the right of audience for advocates who fail to adhere to the dress code. The Registrar General has been directed to issue a circular mandating strict compliance with the professional dress code for all virtual hearings.
