Delhi High Court Restrains Misuse of Reliance Retail’s ‘Tira’ Trademark in Financial Frauds

  • Case Name: Reliance Retail Limited v. Ashok Kumar & Ors

The Delhi High Court granted interim relief to Reliance Retail, restraining the misuse of its ‘Tira’ trademark in financial scams involving rogue mobile numbers and UPI frauds.

The Court noted that fraudsters were impersonating the brand to deceive customers using fake gift cards, false payment demands, and bogus cancellation claims.

Over 8,900 such cases have been reported, involving fraud of more than ₹41 lakh. The Court directed telecom providers to block the numbers, WhatsApp to suspend linked accounts, and NPCI to freeze associated UPI IDs and QR codes.

Real-time injunctions will be applied to newly identified rogue numbers. The case will be heard next on November 6.
