Election Commission Assures SC: No Voter Will Be Removed Without Notice in Bihar's Electoral Roll Revision

The Election Commission of India (ECI) assured the Supreme Court that during Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, no voter will be removed without prior notice, a hearing opportunity, and a reasoned order.

The ECI said it isn’t legally required to publish separate lists or reasons for exclusions but has shared booth-level data with parties for verification. Voters can file Form 6 by September 1 to challenge omissions.

The ECI also asked the Court to dismiss petitions alleging wrongful deletions, claiming some petitions made misleading claims.

This assurance aims to protect voter rights amid concerns over the removal of around 65 lakh names.
