The Uttarakhand High Court reiterated that elections are the lifeline of democracy and must be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner because each vote holds value.
Justice Ravindra Maithani made this observation while hearing a writ petition filed by Pushpa Negi, who sought safeguards to ensure fairness in the upcoming election of the Chairman of Zila Panchayat, Nainital.
Negi had earlier submitted a representation to the State Election Commission, raising concerns about transparency.
The State and the Election Commission assured the Court that the elections would be conducted fairly. Recording this assurance, the Court held that no further directions were necessary and disposed of the petition.
