Ex-Cop, PSU Employee Among 5 Sentenced in 2003 Fraudulent Insurance Claims Case

A special CBI court in Ahmedabad sentenced five individuals, including a former PSU employee and an ex-policeman, to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined them Rs. 23.5 lakh in a 22-year-old insurance fraud case.

The accused forged documents, filed fake FIRs, and fabricated evidence to secure claims, causing a Rs. 4.89 lakh loss to New India Assurance.

The CBI, which registered the case in 2003 and filed a chargesheet in 2005, established the conspiracy with 25 witnesses and 228 exhibits. Charges against one accused were abated due to his death.

 The judgment was delivered on December 30, 2024.
