Expired Saline Allegedly Kills Pregnant Woman in Bengal; High Court to Hear PIL

The Calcutta High Court will hear a PIL on January 16 regarding the death of 21-year-old Mamoni Rui Das and the critical condition of three other pregnant women allegedly administered expired saline at Midnapore Medical College.

The PIL seeks a CBI probe, citing supplier negligence flagged earlier in 2024. The court permitted the plea, demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and accountability. 

Amid protests from opposition parties, the state government has formed a 13-member committee to investigate. Meanwhile, victims remain under critical care, and the High Court has directed state representation in the upcoming hearing.
