"Fantastic Story, Use Common Sense": Madras High Court Slams Police Over Custodial Injury of 63-Year-Old Man

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court dismissed a challenge by police officials against an SHRC order directing ₹6 lakh compensation for a 63-year-old man.

The Bench rejected the police’s "fanciful" claim that the victim caused his own head injuries by hitting a steel bar inside a police vehicle.

The Court observed that common sense refutes such a version, especially involving a senior citizen.

The Court further drew an adverse inference against the police for failing to produce CCTV footage and found that the victim was illegally summoned at the behest of a DSP to settle a civil dispute.
