FIR Lodged in Maharashtra Over “Insulting” Video of CJI Gavai

An advocate filed an FIR in Navi Mumbai against a social media user "Kikki Singh" for uploading a video allegedly defaming Chief Justice B.R. Gavai on 'X' (formerly Twitter).

The video reportedly showed the CJI with a pot around his neck, blue paint on his face, and being hit with a shoe, suggestive of casteist commentary. 

The FIR, registered with the New Panvel police, invokes sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, alleging conspiracy, insult, and promotion of enmity on caste grounds.

The FIR further alleges that Kikki Singh, along with some of his known persons, has conspired to create hatred against CJI Gavai and the Scheduled Caste persons, because he is the first Dalit CJI.
