The Delhi High Court has ruled that a wife’s persistent pressure on her husband to sever ties with his family constitutes cruelty and is a valid ground for divorce.
A division bench of Justices Anil Kshetarpal and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar made the observation while dismissing an appeal filed by a wife.
The Court noted that sustained humiliation, public berating, false police complaints, and pressure to abandon family go beyond the “ordinary wear and tear of married life.”
The Court ruled that such conduct inflicted severe mental cruelty, making it unreasonable to expect the husband to continue in the marriage.
