Kerala HC to Hear Plea Over Delay in Censor Certificate for Film Starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi

  • Case Name: M/s Cosmos Entertainments v. The Regional Officer

M/s Cosmos Entertainments approached the Kerala High Court alleging that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) delayed certification for its film JSK: Janaki v State of Kerala, starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi.

The petitioner argued that objections to the film's title, previously permitted in teaser form, were raised informally and violated their rights under Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution.

They sought a direction for urgent certification under Section 4 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. The CBFC Revising Committee is set to meet on June 26, and the court has scheduled the next hearing for June 27.
