‘FSSAI is There’: Supreme Court Dismisses PIL for Food Safety Task Force

The Supreme Court dismissed a PIL seeking a court-monitored National Task Force to oversee food safety, ruling that the judiciary cannot act as a "super-regulator."

The Bench held that Article 32 cannot be used to take over the managerial functions of specialized statutory bodies like the FSSAI.

The Court noted that the petitioner relied solely on sporadic newspaper reports rather than empirical data to prove systemic failure.

Emphasizing judicial restraint, the Bench stated that it would not substitute its wisdom for that of a multi-disciplinary statutory body in technical domains unless a total collapse of existing machinery was demonstrated.
