The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating Uber over complaints about its "Uber One" membership program. Customers allege they were unknowingly enrolled and struggled to cancel their subscriptions.
This investigation is part of the FTC's effort to protect consumers from deceptive subscription practices. The agency advocates for simple and transparent subscription management, in line with its proposed "Click-to-Cancel" rule, making cancelling as easy as signing up.
The FTC has also investigated Amazon and Publishers Clearing House for using deceptive tactics, known as "dark patterns," to trap customers in subscriptions.
