The Delhi High Court has directed jail authorities to issue convicts a written note specifying their surrender date when releasing them on parole or furlough, with acknowledgment, to prevent confusion.
Justice Girish Kathpalia observed that many convicts, due to illiteracy or misunderstanding, fail to surrender on time and face punishment.
In the present case, the Court allowed a furlough plea previously denied due to a delayed surrender, finding no evidence the convict was adequately informed of the surrender date. The Court granted a three-week furlough accordingly.
