Justice Gautam Patel Slams GLC Principal Over Legal Notice to Alumni Podcast Using College Abbreviation

The Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, issued a notice threatening legal action against the alumni-run podcast ‘GLC Law and Lore’ for using the college’s abbreviation without authorisation.

Principal Dr. Asmita Vaidya clarified that the college is not affiliated with the podcast. In response, Justice Gautam Patel, a GLC alumnus and former Bombay High Court judge, condemned the notice in a letter, calling it “contemptible and disgraceful.”

He defended the students’ initiative and offered pro bono legal assistance if action was taken. 

He defended the podcast as a positive alumni initiative and offered pro bono legal help if the college pursued action. Justice Patel urged the Principal to withdraw the notice, stressing alumni should be encouraged, not silenced, in celebrating GLC.
