Google India not liable for content by Google LLC, YouTube: Karnataka High Court

The Karnataka High Court has ruled that Google India Pvt Ltd cannot be held liable for content hosted by Google LLC or YouTube, as they are separate legal entities.

The order came in a defamation suit filed by a woman seeking to restrain 21 parties from publishing defamatory material. Justice Vijaykumar A Patil noted that Google India played no role in hosting the content and was wrongly included as a defendant.

The Court directed the trial court to remove Google India from the case due to a lack of evidence linking it to the alleged defamation. (Google India Private Limited v. Nayana Krishna)
