Gujarat High Court Fines Man ₹1 Lakh for Attending Virtual Hearing from Toilet

The Gujarat High Court has imposed a ₹1 lakh fine on Samad Abdul Rehman Shah for contempt of court after a video went viral showing him attending virtual proceedings while relieving himself on a toilet seat. 

The incident occurred on June 20 before Justice Nirzar S Desai during a hearing on quashing an FIR, which was ultimately resolved amicably and quashed.

The Court labelled his conduct “contumacious,” and warned of jail if payment isn’t made before the next hearing on July 22. The court also asked the registry’s IT team to suggest preventive measures.
