The Gujarat High Court has ruled that videos of court proceedings live-streamed on YouTube must be removed after a specific time, leaving the discretion to the Chief Justice of India.
The decision came while dismissing a contempt plea by the Gujarat Operational Creditors Association against Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India, which the court called "frivolous."
The bench also condemned the use and reliance of the live-streaming transcripts, which cannot be treated as authorised/certified/official versions of anything relating to the court proceedings and evidence.
Such transcripts' formulations contradict Rule 5 of the Gujarat High Court Live Streaming Rules, 2021 and may invite contempt proceedings.
The petitioner was fined ₹2 lakh for misusing court resources.
