Gujarat High Court Emphasizes Courtroom Decorum Over IIT Student’s Attire

Gujarat High Court took exception to the attire of an IIT Gandhinagar student during a hearing challenging disciplinary action against her.

Observing that while personal choice is a right, it must conform to the "dignity and decorum" of the court, which he described as a "temple of justice."

The student, appearing in an open shirt over a T-shirt, faced questions regarding institutional discipline after the institute sanctioned her for unauthorized presence in a male student's hostel room.

While the Court issued notice to IIT Gandhinagar, it declined immediate interim relief, stressing that students must adhere to institutional norms regardless of personal views.
