Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal virtually inaugurated Formal Witness Deposition Centres (FWDCs) at all district headquarters, expanding the initiative previously launched in five major districts.
She emphasized that the centres mark a milestone in judicial modernization, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in line with new criminal laws and the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System.
The FWDCs will allow formal witnesses, including police, medical officers, and forensic experts, to depose via video conferencing from the nearest district centre, regardless of transfers or retirement.
This measure aims to speed up trials, reduce delays, and provide convenience to witnesses essential to the justice process.
