The Chennai North District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission fined Gulf Air ₹1.4 lakh with 9% annual interest after the airline denied boarding to a former Tamil Nadu MLA at Moscow airport because his passport bore only his given name.
The airline’s ground staff refused to allow Nizamudeen to board a February 9, 2023, Doha-dubbed flight via Moscow, despite his earlier travel with the same documents.
The Commission found that Gulf Air breached Rule 8(1)(h) of the RTI Act and failed to follow amended regulations permitting single-name travellers if their surname appeared elsewhere in the travel document.
