The Supreme Court has raised serious concerns over organised criminals exploiting jurisdictional overlaps across Delhi-NCR States to delay investigations and trials in grave offences under Central penal laws.
A Bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant noted that crimes committed in one State often get caught in jurisdictional disputes involving another, which ultimately works in favour of the accused.
The Court observed that such overlaps weaken enforcement and slow down the criminal justice process.
Stressing the need for an effective legal mechanism, the Court indicated that legislative and structural reforms may be required to address inter-State complexities and ensure prompt justice.
