Bombay High Court refuses to quash FIR for slapping BSP MP

  • Case Name: Neema Sanjay Rangari & Anr v. State of Maharashtra

During a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) meeting in Mumbai on July 17, 2024, a Dalit MP was allegedly slapped and subjected to casteist remarks by two members over ticket denial.

An FIR was filed under the SC/ST Act and Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, backed by CCTV footage and witness accounts.

The petitioners claimed the FIR was malafide, denying the allegations, and accusing the complainant of abuse. However, respondents cited CCTV footage and witness statements as clear evidence.

The High Court, finding a prima facie case, refused to quash the FIR, holding the offences were proven.
