"He Dared To Call My Brother": CJI Surya Kant Warns of Contempt in Buddhist Medical College Admission Case

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant slammed a petitioner’s father for attempting to influence a judicial order by telephoning the CJI’s brother.

The Bench, while hearing a plea regarding medical PG admissions under the Buddhist minority quota, questioned why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against the individual.

The case involves two General Category candidates from the "Punia" caste who claimed conversion to Buddhism to seek admission in a minority institution.

The CJI remarked that such "calculated moves" to manipulate authorities or threaten the Court would be dealt with strictly, noting that the Haryana state authorities were also allegedly being misled.
