P&H High Court strikes Down Haryana’s Bonus Marks Policy in Job Recruitment

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has struck down Haryana’s 2019 bonus marks policy for government job recruitment. The policy gave up to 10 extra marks for socio-economic status and work experience.

The Court said the policy violated Articles 14, 15, and 16 of the Constitution and breached the 50% reservation limit set by the Supreme Court.

The judges said the bonus marks were not based on rules or data and were unfair to more meritorious candidates.

The Court ordered that appointments made will not be cancelled, but those candidates cannot claim seniority.
