The Himachal Pradesh High Court has ruled that a valid Below Poverty Line (BPL) certificate is sufficient proof of income for claiming benefits or reservations, and an additional income certificate is not required when a BPL certificate is already submitted.
The Court clarified that authorities must accept the BPL certificate as conclusive evidence of economic status for relevant claims, such as reserved category marks or welfare schemes.
The decision came while directing state authorities to accept the BPL certificate submitted by a petitioner seeking benefits under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
