Delhi High Court Upholds Acquittal in Abetment to Suicide Case Over Lack of Evidence

The Delhi High Court has upheld the acquittal of a woman and her family in an abetment to suicide case filed after her husband’s death.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna ruled that marital discord and vague allegations do not constitute abetment without specific acts of provocation.

The Court noted the deceased's suicide note was undated and failed to directly implicate the accused.

Evidence also indicated that the wife suffered from mental health issues and had attempted suicide herself. The appeal filed by the husband’s father was dismissed due to a lack of concrete proof of instigation. (Shiv Shankar v. State & Ors.)
