Secunderabad Court Grants 5-Day Police Custody of IVF Doctor in Illegal Surrogacy Case

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Secunderabad, granted five days’ police custody of Dr. Athaluri Namratha, owner of Universal Srushti Fertility Centre, in the illegal surrogacy and baby-selling case.

She was taken from Chanchalguda jail to Gandhi Hospital for medical tests before being brought for questioning by Gopalapuram police.

Police will interrogate her over alleged illegal surrogacy activities and are investigating if gametes collected at the center were sold or disposed of illegally.

Dr. Namratha denied the allegations, stating she faced similar accusations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Police mentioned her previous involvement in another surrogacy case.
